Are You a Connector or a Climber?
Posted on June 29, 2011
Social media is absolutely amazing! But, those of us who are on social media, Facebook, Twitter, whatever, we’re either connectors or climbers. Social media was invented to connect, and that’s great to connect. It’s amazing! But so often we turn into climbers. We say we’re connecting but we’re really climbing. We say things like, “I’m blessed,” or “I’m honored,” or, “I want to increase my sphere of influence. So we brag about ourselves, and then we place a God sticker on it. Like, we placed a God sticker on it, everything’s OK, now we’re humble. But the bottom line is we’re filled with pride.
There have been some times I’ve been ready to press the send button on a Tweet and I’ve run it by a trusted friend or confidante and they say,
“Ed, hey man, that’s whooo…. That can be taken the wrong way. That’s self-serving. That’s kind of a climbing thing. Why are you really saying that?” and I’ve not sent the Tweet.
I can’t make that decision for you. You can’t make it for me. It’s between you and God… me and God. But I want to challenge you to have someone else in your life, someone else who can be your filter. Because the ministry is set up for insecurity, and we think we can get on Twitter and it gives us all these props and we can brag and do all this other stuff. And it’s not honoring God.
Let’s use social media for what? Connecting. For what? Connecting! For what? Connecting! Because Rolls Royces don’t have to advertise.
Got something to say?
